Dream Cave Show ∆ 11/23/24
There’s a cool little cave in the Barton Creek Greenbelt that I adore and visit often for picnics and photoshoots. It’s known as Dream Cave (also called Choss Cave, which is old english for “chaos”) Somehow the decision to show my work in this cave became the most obvious thing to do both aesthetically and logistically: my instincts toward play and DIY always perk-up in nature. More: I was tired of waiting for that text back or email, ya know? When inspiration strikes- you can’t wait on anything or anyone. Just act.
So, we are having a collaborative art exhibit in the wild on Saturday November 23 from 12-6pm. Partnering with a few local heavy-hitters, this show came together fast. You won’t need a ticket or reservation to attend. Just wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a friend. Here’s the lineup:
Bringing bright analogies to the scene and reinforcing her position that “environment is just as much a part of the light’s existence as the source itself”, Anahita Bradberry will be showing 2 new geometric plasma sculptures in Dream Cave. Anahita (Ani) is an Iranian-American artist and writer creating sculptural situations with plasma light. As organic bodies and minimal geometries, her practice is an exercise in life-forming: filling tubular vessels with pulsing plasma—the luminous fourth state of matter—and arranging the ethereal light in conversation with its surroundings. Each object is simultaneously a multidimensional line and an atmospheric field.
This event marks my 10th year of living in Austin, and I will be showing part of my new Texas Venus collection, which represents an evolution in my work towards more figurative expressions in clay. The collection also pays homage to the creatively fertile decade that I’ve had in Central Texas. The cave epitomizing what I love about this region - iykyk - inspiration is everywhere. Look around a bit.
More: there will be music of some variety being made all day, featuring Terrance of Soul Sipper / Indoor Creature, Nathan of Micajah and special guest instrumentalist Dan Minshew. We would love for you to join us for whatever this becomes.
Directions from the Gus Fruh entrance to the Greenbelt: take the switchbacks on right down to Barton Creek. Before reaching the creek turn right taking foot path north along creek. 10 minute walk to cave on right. See map for details. Easy hike but sadly not ADA compliant.
